These Fingerless Mittens are lovingly crafted from the wool of the Orchard Farm Coloured Ryeland Flock, which graze alongside the Erme Estuary, overlooking Mothecombe Beach. These mittens are inspired by the Gansy traditions of coastal fishing knitwear, blending heritage with purpose.
Inspired by the Gansy traditions of coastal fishing knitwear, the intricate cable stitch symbolises “safe passage,” while the moss stitch reflects the texture of carrageen moss seaweed, representing optimism for a “bountiful harvest.” Made from Coloured Ryeland wool which is spun into yarn at the Natural Fibre Company in Cornwall. It is then knitted in the historic textile heartlands of the Midlands.
Soft enough to wear next to the skin and warm enough to shield against the cold. Slow, sustainable fashion.
These kids mittens are one size, and will fit from age 2-3 up to age 6-7 easily
